Why not try this healthier take on the classic seasonal treat. The naturally sweet, sticky dates replace the caramel and the outer layer in covered in dark chocolate and a sprinkling of chopped nuts.
- Start by lining a baking tray or large chopping board with cling film
- spread the pitted dates open and lay them evenly side by side over the cling film.
- Press the dates down using your hand to ensure they make a flat layer (you may also want to use a rolling pin of glass jar to do this).
- Place the apple in the middle of the date layer, then bring up the sides of the cling film to encase the apple in the date 'toffee' layer.
- Secure tightly, then place in the fridge for 30mins to firm up
- Once the 30minutes is done, remove from the fridge and inset the wooden skewer into the apple.
- Melt the dark chocolate, then dip the date 'toffee' apple into the chocolate to ensure it is evenly coated.
- Sprinkle with nuts, the place into the fridge again to set.
- Once set, remove from the fridge and enjoy!
